Rev. Dr.
Reverend Dr. Brian C. Ellis-Gibbs is Pastor of Queens Baptist Church in Queens Village, New York, and has been in professional ministry for over 30 years. Rev. Dr. Ellis-Gibbs received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Morehouse College; Master of Divinity degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary; and Doctor of Ministry degree from New York Theological Seminary. His doctoral dissertation is “Does the Church Want to Be Made Well: Healing Congregational Trauma”. He is an Ordained Minister within American Baptist Churches, USA. Rev. Ellis-Gibbs also is an adjunct professor for the Certificate for Leadership in Ministry program for New York Theological Seminary and serves as Chair of the board of directors for Faith In New York
Rev. Ellis-Gibbs has served as assistant minister at Imani United Church of Christ in Euclid, Ohio; Youth Pastor and Assistant to the Pastor for Ministry Development at Macedonia Baptist Church, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and served as Associate Minister to the Pastor for Spiritual and Congregational Development at St. Paul Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. Pastor Gibbs has been trained in activism by the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF), and in faith-based, grassroots organizing by Faith in Action (formerly PICO) National Network.
Dr. Ellis-Gibbs has also served as Faith-Based Community Engagement Coordinator for FPWA (formerly Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies); Interim Executive Director for Faith in New York, and Board member for Clergy United for Community Empowerment (CUCE). Rev. Ellis-Gibbs is a former faith and justice fellow with the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies (FPWA), and was awarded the Rev. J.B. Watts Leadership Award by the NAACP Jamaica Branch (NY). Rev. Dr. Ellis-Gibbs has also served as an adjunct faculty with the University of Phoenix, Jersey City campus.
Rev. Ellis-Gibbs’ active participation in social justice campaigns include Fight for Affordable housing; “Fight for 15” Campaign; Not on My Watch”, a movement against Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking; collaborative rebuilding for Hurricane Sandy Survivors; “Lifelines to Healing”, working towards ending gun violence; “Ban the Box”; and Mayoral Candidate Accountability.
Rev. Ellis-Gibbs treasures the blessing of being the proud father of four beautiful children: Briana, Hannah, Spencer, and Marshall.
